We are pleased to announce that a thesis on the 407 Art Foundation project has been awarded an excellent grade at the Faculty of Management in the Art Market at the University of Warsaw, which is a rare and significant distinction. The title of the thesis is: “The Role of the Curator in Creating the Value of an Artist and Their Works: The Example of the 407 Art Foundation Project.”
This thesis contributes to the development of knowledge about the new role of curators in the art world. Curators have long played a crucial role in shaping the value of artists and their works. Traditionally, their tasks included selecting works for exhibitions, organizing displays, and promoting artists. Thanks to their work, artists could gain recognition in the art market, and their works increased in value.
However, the contemporary art market is dynamic and constantly evolving, and with it, the role of the curator is also changing. Today, curators not only organize exhibitions but also actively participate in the processes of creation and marketing, building narratives around the artists’ works and taking care of their professional development. Through projects such as those carried out by the 407 Art Foundation, curators have the opportunity to introduce innovative methods of promoting and supporting artists.
The defended thesis analyzes these changes, emphasizing how important it is for curators to adapt to new market conditions. The author details how curators can effectively influence the development of artists’ careers and increase the value of their works through appropriate curatorial actions.
We are proud that the 407 Art Foundation project has been recognized by the Academic Committee of the Faculty of Management at the University of Warsaw. This achievement motivates us to continue our work towards the development of art and the support of artists in their creative endeavors.
